The Green Bay Packers are losing a player off the team's practice squad ahead of Week 1. On Friday, the Houston Texans announced the signing of defensive lineman Jaden Crumedy off the Packers' practice squad.
Crumedy will replace defensive tackle Kayden McDonald, who is going on injured reserve, on the Texans' 53-man roster. Because he was signed off a team's practice squad, Crumedy must remain on the Texans' 53-man roster for at least three weeks.
Crumedy had an excellent preseason in Green Bay. During the finale, his pressure and quarterback hit forced an interception. But at a deep position group, which featured seven players making the initial 53-man roster, Crumedy was released at final roster cutdowns, and he returned on the Packers practice
squad after clearing waivers.
The Packers are entering the 2026 season with Devonte Wyatt, Javon Hargrave, Karl Brooks, Warren Brinson, rookie Chris McClellan, Jonathan Ford and Anthony Campbell at defensive tackle on the 53-man roster.
Crumedy's exit will clear the way for receiver Bo Melton, who was released from the 53-man roster on Friday, to re-sign to the practice squad ahead of Sunday's Week 1 showdown with the Minnesota Vikings.
Crumedy, a 2024 sixth-round pick, spent most of the 2025 season on the Carolina Panthers practice squad. He was signed to a futures contract in Green Bay in January.
