The Green Bay Packers signed veteran offensive linemen Laken Tomlinson and Mekhi Becton within the last week, and the team isn't done adding help for the league's worst offensive line. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Packers are signing veteran guard Kevin Zeitler to a one-year deal on Wednesday following a visit to the team on Tuesday.
Zeitler, a Wisconsin native who starred with at the University of Wisconsin before becoming a first-round pick in 2012, has started 213 career games, all at right guard. He's played over 14,000 career snaps at the position.
The Packers will become Zeitler's seventh NFL team. He played last season with the Tennessee Titans, starting 16 games and allowing only 16 pressures across 909 snaps.
Zeitler will be
on the practice field for the Packers on Wednesday, although it's unclear if he'll have any chance of playing this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Breakdown: It took three disastrous games along the offensive line, but the Packers are addressing the problem in a big way. In Tomlinson and Zeitler, the Packers may have their new starting guards. And Becton was a starting guard for a Super Bowl winner in 2024. Zeitler has been one of the NFL's best guards for over a decade and is the best player of the three. He could provide a massive upgrade at right guard, where starter Jacob Monk hasn't been good enough through three games. General manager Brian Gutekunst is cleaning a mess of his own making, but at least the Packers aren't letting this season go down the drain without trying to find solutions. The Packers now have legitimate NFL starting options at both guard spots, which could, in theory, stabilize the whole operation.
