The Green Bay Packers elevated tight end Drake Dabney from the practice squad to the gameday roster for Week 9, making him available for Matt LaFleur's team on Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Dabney's elevation was the only roster move made Saturday, meaning running back Chris Brooks was not activated to the 53-man roster.
The Packers are adding Dabney to replace the depth lost at tight end when Josh Whyle was ruled out with a concussion on Friday's final injury report. LaFleur's team has Tucker Kraft, Mark Redman, Jonnu Smith and Dabney as available options at the position for Sunday, although it's possible only three of the four will be active (Smith was a healthy scratch last week).
Dabney played in two games for the Packers last season,
catching one pass for three yards.
Special teams was likely the driving factor for Dabney's elevation. During the preseason, Dabney played 37 snaps on special teams, including 10 snaps on kickoff return, seven on punt coverage and 17 blocking on field goals.
This is Dabney's first elevation to the gameday roster. By rule, he can be elevated twice more during the regular season. Arron Mosby, who was elevated each of the last three weeks, is out of elevations.
