Expect to see quarterback Jordan Love and the rest of the team's healthy starters when the Green Bay Packers open the preseason on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Coach Matt LaFleur said he's planning on Love playing in the preseason opener.
"He will, as of right now. I always have the right to change my mind," LaFleur said Tuesday.
Since taking over as the starter in 2023, Love has appeared in all three preseason openers -- playing 12 snaps in Cincinnati in 2023, three snaps in Cleveland in 2024 and 12 against the New York Jets in 2025. He threw touchdown passes during short appearances in 2023 and 2024.
LaFleur said the snap counts will be fluid based on player. The value is having each and every healthy player get physically and mentally
ready to play in a live game, providing a tune up of the pre-game process before the regular season.
"I'd say it's pretty fluid in regards to how many snaps," LaFleur said. "I do think there is a lot of value for all our guys to get mentally prepared to go play a game. Whether it's one play, or three plays, or 10 plays, or the whole game. I think there is a ton of value in that, just getting your process down."
Along the offensive line, LaFleur said a few of the players competing for starting jobs would get more snaps than the established starters. The same can probably be said for every position group.
A few starters for the Packers won't be available. LaFleur said running back Josh Jacobs and cornerback Carrington Valentine won't be back until next week at the earliest. Receivers Matthew Golden (toe) and Jayden Reed (ankle) are dealing with new injuries and didn't practice on Monday.
