The one and only game ball given out by coach Matt LaFleur following the Green Bay Packers' 27-19 win over the Carolina Panthers went to linebacker Ty'Ron Hopper, who had a sack, an interception and three total passes defensed in the primetime win at Lambeau Field.
Hopper made a tackle on Chuba Hubbard for no gain, defended a pass on third down which led to a punt, defended another pass intended for Hubbard down the field, came unblocked on a blitz and hit Bryce Young to force an incompletion, intercepted Young on a pass he deflected late in the first half and sacked Young at the line of scrimmage after chasing him down on a bootleg in the second half.
Hopper, a third-round pick in 2024, was starting his second consecutive game in place of injured
starter Zaire Franklin.
"This guy, the road that you've gone through, to get to where you are now, that's a credit to you," LaFleur said.
Per Next Gen Stats, Hopper finished with a team-high five stops, and he produced three quarterback pressures, including two hits.
"What a great performance," LaFleur said.
The Packers needed a player to step up at linebacker with Edgerrin Cooper out for the season and Franklin dealing with a hairline fracture in his leg. Hopper was up to the task about the Panthers on Thursday night.
"I can't say enough about the job he's done," LaFleur said.
Evan Williams on Ty'Ron Hopper: "I’m glad that people are seeing what he’s capable of now. He never got that shot coming in and for him to step up to the plate and do what he’s doing is big for our defense."
