Two players for the Green Bay Packers were fined for on-field conduct during Week 1, but who wasn't fined by the league was just as interesting coming out of the loss in Minnesota.
According to the NFL, Packers safety Evan Williams and edge rusher Lukas Van Ness were both fined in Week 1. Williams was fined $7,087 for a hit on a defenseless player, while Van Ness was fined $17,911 for a blow to the head or neck of a quarterback.
Williams was penalized for unnecessary roughness when he hit Justin Jefferson with 3:43 left in the second quarter. Jefferson was falling backwards and deemed defenseless after making a catch when Williams hit him in the back, drawing the 15-yard penalty.
Van Ness was not penalized for his hit on the quarterback with 11:43
left in the third quarter. A review of the play showed that Van Ness clearly made contact with the helmet/facemask of Carson Wentz on a third-down play.
Two Packers players were not fined by the NFL: defensive back Javon Bullard, who was the penalized player on the hit that knocked out Kyler Murray in the first quarter, and defensive lineman Chris McClellan, who was penalized for roughing the quarterback in the fourth quarter. After review, the NFL did not believe Bullard hit Murray late or illegally, while McClellan's hit on Carson Wentz was not deemed to be fine-worthy.
No member of the Vikings was fined for on-field actions in Week 1. Overall, 20 players were fined during the season's opening week.
