With open roster spots and Skyy Moore required to miss at least three more games while on injured reserve, the Green Bay Packers are signing receiver and returner Coleman Owen from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, per Bill Huber of Packers on SI.
The Packers are expected to make several roster moves ahead of Sunday's showdown with the Detroit Lions. Among them will be the signing of Owen, who handled punt return duties for the Packers last week against the Dallas Cowboys and will provide depth at slot receiver with Moore out and Jayden Reed on season-ending injured reserve.
Owen, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts last season, returned one punt for 16 yards and successfully fair caught two other
punts against the Cowboys. A gameday elevation from the practice squad in Week 6, Owen was on the field for three snaps, all punt returns.
Special teams coordinator Cam Achord said Owen "did a really good job" returning punts on Sunday night. While Achord said the punt return situation is "fluid," the expectation will be that Owen is active and handles punt returns against the Lions at Ford Field on Sunday.
Owen will join Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, Savion Williams, Bo Melton and J. Michael Sturdivant on the wide receiver depth chart.
Melton has a back injury, missed two practices this week and is listed as questionable to play on the injury report.
