Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst set his initial 53-man roster on Sunday. On Tuesday, Gutekunst answered questions about his roster, including a few questions about several important injured players.
Among those addressed was Micah Parsons, who is starting the season on the PUP list but who might be back on the practice field sooner than expected.
Some injury updates from Gutekunst after final cuts:
-- On DL Warren Brinson: Gutekunst said Brinson has a "good chance" to be ready to play in Week 1. Brinson has been out with a calf injury since the second preseason week.
-- On WR Savion Williams and EDGE Collin Oliver: Gutekunst said Williams has a "high ankle" sprain and is expected to be ready to go after missing four games. Oliver is dealing
with an Achilles injury, but he is also expected to be healthy after missing the first four games. Both players were placed on IR-designated to return to start the season.
-- On RT Zach Tom and LG Aaron Banks: Gutekunst said there are still "some concerns" about where they are at injury-wise coming out of the preseason. Tom is coming back from a major knee injury, while Banks is managing a knee injury. They both missed time during training camp.
-- On EDGE Micah Parsons: Gutekunst believes Parsons will be close to ready coming out of the four-game window to start the season. The Packers will still be cautious. "He's eager." Gutekunst thinks there will be conversations about Parsons practicing when his window opens up after two weeks. Parsons is starting the season on the PUP list, so he'll miss the first four games.
-- On TE Luke Musgrave: Gutekunst said he thinks Musgrave WILL play at some point this season, but the team is still working through his neck injury. Musgrave is starting the season on the PUP list. "I would expect him to play."
From practice: long snapper Matt Orzech is back and practicing on Tuesday. The only DNP is Brinson. The three new additions are all available to practice.
TE Jonnu Smith, TE Mark Redman & RB Kaleb Johnson were all practicing on Wednesday. New QB3 Kedon Slovis is also here.
