The Chicago Bears will be without their leading rusher when they take on the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Lambeau Field. According to Courney Cronin of ESPN, Bears coach Ben Johnson revealed running back Kyle Monangai has a more concerning toe injury that the team originally believed, and Monangai will not practice on Friday or play on Sunday. He is considered week to week.
Monangai, who rushed for 783 yards as a rookie last season, entered Week 5 as the Bears leading rusher with 324 yards. He produced a season-high 146 rushing yards and two scores during Chicago's win over the New York Jets last week. Monangai's 324 rushing yards rank eighth in the NFL.
Without Monangai, the Bears will likely rely on veteran D'Andre Swift, who has started all
four games and has 311 rushing yards in 2026, as the leading running back, although Swift is also dealing with knee and hip injuries. Last season, Swift produced 1,087 rushing yards, 1,386 total yards and 10 total touchdowns.
Roschon Johnson, a fourth-round pick from the 2023 draft, is expected to be elevated into the No. 2 role behind Swift against the Packers and could play a much larger role if Swift is limited.
The Bears offense will be without both Monangai and quarterback Caleb Williams on Sunday, providing an assist to a Packers defense that won't have Edgerrin Cooper or Micah Parsons. The final injury report arrives later on Friday.
