Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs turned 21 attempts into 39 rushing yards and caught six passes for only 13 yards during Sunday night's win over the Carolina Panthers. Jacobs scored twice, including once as a runner and once as a receiver.
But how rare was Jacobs' yardage total given his number of attempts and receptions?
It was historically rare.
Per Pro Football Reference, Jacobs became the first player in NFL history to do the following in a single game:
- 20 or more rushing attempts
- Fewer than 40 rushing yards
- At least 6 catches
- Fewer than 20 receiving yards
Removing the receiving filters, Jacobs became the first player in the NFL since 2023 and first Packers player since 2012 to turn at least 20 rushes into fewer than 40 rushing yards.
The lack of production came against the NFL's worst rush defense entering Week 8. The Panthers came into
Thursday night allowing 153.2 rushing yards per game. The Packers finished with only 66 total. Designed runs to running backs gained 48 yards on 25 attempts.
Of Jacobs' 21 rushing attempts, 11 gained one yard or fewer.
Even with Jacobs back, the Packers have a historically bad run game through eight games.
