The Green Bay Packers returned to the practice field for the second practice of training camp on Thursday. One starter returned from a minor injury, another starter didn't practice while managing an injury, and a rookie didn't practice due to a new injury. At practice, the starting lineup got a slight alteration, and the receivers and linebackers had a busy day.
Recapping Day 2 of Packers training camp:
Injury updates
Cornerback Keisean Nixon returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday with hamstring tightness. Speaking of hamstrings, rookie offensive lineman Jager Burton and receiver Brenden Rice did not practice on Thursday due to new hamstring injuries. Coach Matt LaFleur said Burton was getting the injury tested on Thursday. Another injury to monitor:
starting guard Aaron Banks got the day off while managing a knee injury. Load management on Day 2 of training camp suggests Banks has a lingering injury. On Luke Musgrave, LaFleur said the team is hoping his neck injury eventually subsides, an ominous sign for his availability in the short term.
Also, Edgerrin Cooper appeared to drop out of team periods midway through practice. We'll see if there's an update ahead of Friday's practice.
Big things to know
-- Unsurprisingly, Keisean Nixon returned to the starting lineup at corner, pushing top pick Brandon Cisse to the second team defense. Carrington Valentine was the other starter opposite Nixon. The competition moving forward is between Cisse, Valentine and Benjamin St-Juste for playing time.
-- Matthew Golden had an active day. He created a couple of explosive plays in the passing game. Expect this to become the training camp norm.
-- The linebackers are certainly part of the team's pass-rushing plan under Jonathan Gannon. Edgerrin Cooper and Zaire Franklin both created some havoc on blitzes on Thursday. Cooper can blitz from any angle, and Cooper and Franklin could be a menacing duo on A-gap blitzes.
-- Backup slot defender Johnathan Baldwin made one of the day's best plays, intercepting quarterback Tyrod Taylor. He is looking like a player capable of making a real run at a 53-man roster spot this summer. A UDFA in 2025, Baldwin had his best season playing primarily in the slot at UNLV in 2024.

Highlight
Baldwin's interception gets the nod for top play of the day. The second-year defensive back picked off a pass from Tyrod Taylor while with the No. 2 defense.
Keep an eye on Jonathan Baldwin. Just picked off Tyrod Taylor from the slot with the 2s.

Baldwin played mostly safety last year as a practice squader but said yesterday that the nickel/slot is his preferred spot.
