The Green Bay Packers sat 37 players for Friday night's preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals. Most are considered starters or important veterans. But did the choices along the offensive line provide a big clue for who the Packers see as the Week 1 starter at right guard?
Jacob Monk is not playing, while rookie Jager Burton and second-year offensive lineman Anthony Belton are both active.
It appears the Packers are considering Monk the expected starter at right guard come Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, which isn't exactly surprising considering Monk has been the first-team option at right guard for much of training camp.
Belton was considered the favorite to start at right guard entering training camp, but he's mostly played right tackle
in place of Zach Bako-Bewele this summer. Right tackle is where he's starting on Friday night. Burton, a fifth-round pick, is getting starting reps at center against the Cardinals.
Monk has appeared in 17 career games with just one start, which came in the regular season finale at Minnesota. He played well against Brian Flores while starting at center.
Come Sunday, Sept. 13, it will be surprising if Monk is not making his second career start at U.S. Bank Stadium.
If Monk is the starter at right guard, the expected offensive line (with everyone healthy) will be Jordan Morgan at left tackle, Aaron Banks at left guard, center Sean Rhyan, Monk and Zach Bako-Bewele at right tackle.
One other note on the offensive line: Darian Kinnard was not among the starting five for the Packers on Friday night. The starters, from left to right: John Williams, Donovan Jennings, Jager Burton, Travis Glover and Anthony Belton. It's possible Kinnard is very much on the roster bubble.
