The Green Bay Packers worked out an interesting group of four players on Tuesday. According to league's transaction wire, the following four players were in Green Bay for a tryout: linebacker Deion Jones, linebacker Chris Paul, cornerback Cobee Bryant and cornerback Dwight McGlothern.
Why linebackers and cornerbacks? Starting linebacker Edgerrin Cooper just went on injured reserve, forcing the Packers to sign Kristian Welch from the practice squad. Starting linebacker Brandon Cisse suffered a neck injury in Tampa Bay and has uncertain availability.
The Packers did not immediately announce a signing of any of the four players following the tryout. In fact, the team added running back Damon Bankston back to the practice squad, filling Welch's spot.
But it's possible a roster move or two could be coming on Wednesday.
Jones, a second-round pick in 2016, has played in 128 career games. He went to the Pro Bowl as a member of the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 and has five career 100-tackle seasons. Last season, Jones played 17 games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he hasn't been a starter since 2023. He turns 32 in November. The Packers might like the idea of having a veteran who could step in and play right away if another injury hit the linebacker position.
Paul (6-1, 235) was an All-American at Ole Miss in 2024 and a fifth-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in 2025. He didn't make the Rams roster as a rookie and ended up spending the 2025 season on the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks. The 23-year-old has never appeared in a regular season game. One of Paul's pre-draft comps was Zaire Franklin.
Bryant (6-0, 180) went undrafted out of Kansas, where he was a three-time All-Big 12 pick, in 2025. He played seven games for the Atlanta Falcons in 2025, including one start. He broke up one pass but mostly struggled in coverage, especially in a primetime matchup against Mike Evans in Week 15.
McGlothern (6-2, 185) went undrafted in 2024 but played in 15 total games for the Minnesota Vikings over the 2024 and 2025 seasons. He was on the field for 50 snaps on defense and 37 snaps on special teams. The Vikings waived him from injured reserve on Sept. 10.
