A veteran defender didn't practice on Thursday for the Green Bay Packers, while the New York Jets added an important player to the injury report ahead of Sunday's Week 2 showdown at MetLife Stadium.
Lukas Van Ness, who is going through the concussion protocol, was able to practice in a limited capacity on Thursday. But veteran defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who is also in the protocol, did not practice, and he is now in danger of not playing on Sunday, given he must pass through all stages of the protocol to be cleared to play.
Defensive tackle Warren Brinson didn't practice for the second straight day and is appearing unlikely to make his 2026 season debut on Sunday.
Offensive lineman Zach Bako-Bewele and Aaron Banks practiced for a second straight
day. The Packers also removed cornerback Brandon Cisse from the injury report entirely. He was a full participant on Wednesday after leaving last Sunday's loss in Minneapolis with cramps.
A potentially big injury to monitor for the Jets: edge rusher Will McDonald IV was added to the injury report on Thursday with a new ankle injury. He was listed as a limited participant at practice on Thursday.
The Packers' maligned offensive line certainly wouldn't mind not having to face McDonald, who had a sack and a 40 percent pass-rush win rate (per ESPN) in Week 1. The 2023 first-rounder has back-to-back seasons with at least 40 pressures and can be a handful to block in the passing game.
Four players did not practice for the Jets on Thursday: safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (groin), edge rusher Joseph Ossai (foot), wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle) and running back/returner Kene Nwangwu. However, rookie cornerback D'Angelo Ponds was a full participant on Thursday and is likely to make his NFL debut on Sunday.
The Packers and Jets will release a final injury report with status designations for Week 2 on Friday afternoon.
