Despite ongoing speculation, the Green Bay Packers have not approached the Arizona Cardinals about a trade for veteran edge rusher Josh Sweat.
General manager Brian Gutekunst shot down the rumors rather emphatically on Tuesday.
"No one from our organization has had a conversation about Josh Sweat with anyone at Arizona. That's coming out of thin air, someone is making stuff up, because that never happened," Gutekunst said.
The trade connection was easy to make, given Sweat's history with Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon and Green Bay's apparent need at edge rusher without Micah Parsons for the first part of the 2026 season. But it appears the Packers have not actively pursued a trade with the Cardinals, who were in Green Bay for a joint
practice last week.
Gutekunst said he's comfortable with the current roster at edge rusher despite keeping only four -- Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Brenton Cox Jr. and rookie Dani Dennis-Sutton -- on the initial 53-man roster. Veteran Arron Mosby and rookie Nyjalik Kelly were retained on the practice squad, adding depth.
Sweat was a standout for Gannon in Philadelphia and then followed him to Arizona. He is under contract with the Cardinals through the 2028 season. Last season, Sweat produced 12.0 sacks over 17 games for Gannon and the Cardinals.
