Still in search of solutions up front, the Green Bay Packers are signing veteran offensive lineman Mekhi Becton after a workout on Monday, according to reporting from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Becton will join the Packers practice squad, not the 53-man roster. A stint on the practice squad would allow Becton time to get up speed with the offense before potentially joining the roster and contributing down the line.
Becton is a mountain of a man, listed at 6-7 and over 360 pounds. He was the 11th overall pick of the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL draft and a Super Bowl champion as a starting guard for the Philadelphia Eagles following the 2024 season. He spent the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Chargers but was released
in March after signing a two-year, $20 million deal.
Becton played 793 snaps for the Chargers at right guard in 2025. He allowed 39 pressures and committed six penalties, per PFF. He struggled throughout the season, both in terms of injuries and performance. Per Schneidman, Becton played through a labrum injury in his shoulder that required offseason surgery, but he is healthy now.
Over the course of his five-year NFL career, Becton has played 1,621 snaps at left tackle, 1,951 snaps at right guard and 101 snaps at right tackle -- although his best season came as a starting right guard for the Eagles in 2024.
The Packers continue to add to the offensive line after a disastrous start to the 2026 season. Becton joins veterans Cordell Volson (practice squad) and Laken Tomlinson (signed off Cowboys practice squad) as recent additions along the offensive line. All three could compete for snaps in the coming weeks given how poorly the Packers have played at guard through the first three games.
