Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Warren Brinson is expected to miss a "significant amount of time" after suffering a groin injury during Wednesday's practice, his first since returning from a calf injury suffered during the preseason.
On Friday, coach Matt LaFleur said Brinson slipped and suffered a non-contact injury.
"Unfortunately, I think he's gonna miss a significant amount of time," LaFleur said. "All he did was slip and injuries occur, and a lot of times it's non-contact."
Brinson, who appeared to be an ascending player to start his second training camp, injured his calf during pre-game warmups in Denver on Aug. 21 and missed the first three regular season games. LaFleur said the new injury was not related to the calf injury.
Brinson,
a sixth-round pick in the 2025 draft, played 243 snaps over 11 games as a rookie. He was expected to be a big part of the rotation at defensive tackle in 2026.
The Packers will move forward with Devonte Wyatt, Karl Brooks, Javon Hargrave, Chris McClellan, Jonathan Ford and Anthony Campbell at defensive tackle. Depth developed over the offseason should mean the position is fine moving forward, even if Brinson has to miss the season.
"That was one of our deeper rooms, thankfully," LaFleur said. "It puts a little bit more of a load on everybody else."
The Packers will likely place Brinson on injured reserve in the coming days. Several players, including edge rusher Micah Parsons, receiver Savion Williams, edge rusher Collin Oliver and tight end Luke Musgrave will become eligible to come off injured reserve or the PUP list starting in Week 5.
