Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur proudly wore a Milwaukee Brewers hat to his press conference on Friday and was congratulatory of the recently crowned National League champions, who completed the 4-0 sweep of the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS on Thursday night and will play in the World Series for the first time since the 1982 season.
"I want to support the Brewers. That was pretty cool to watch last night. I have a lot of respect for their organization, coach (Pat) Murphy," LaFleur said Friday. "I just think they are a first-class organization and I'm really happy for them."
The Brewers overcame a 4-0 deficit early, scoring the final six runs in a 6-4, series-clinching win in Los Angeles.
LaFleur said he wasn't able to
watch much of the Brewers season, but he kept up with Murphy's 103-win team and was excited to see the Wisconsin-based team reach a championship series for the first time in over 40 years.
"It is pretty cool when you have an in-state team reach the World Series for the first time in 44 years, that's a pretty big deal. Just happy for those guys," LaFleur said.
The Brewers will face the winner of the ALCS between the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series. Games 1 and 2 will be played in Milwaukee.
A big sports week continues on in Wisconsin. After beating the rival Chicago Bears last Sunday, LaFleur's team faces the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 6.
