Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed is back in Green Bay and going through more testing on his injured neck, but the team doesn't yet know whether Reed will return to the field during the 2026 season.
Reed returned home after staying overnight in the New York area following Sunday's win over the New York Jets.
"He's back in Green Bay and still going through a lot of testing and consulting with doctors, but from what I've been told, he's doing OK," LaFleur said Tuesday.
Reed was injured when he lowered his head and was hit in the helmet at the end of a catch on the second play from scrimmage on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. He crumbled to the turf, and trainers eventually strapped him to a backboard before carting him off the field in a scary
moment to start Sunday's contest.
LaFleur confirmed Reed has a neck injury despite some media reports that he injured his back. In terms of Reed's status for the rest of the year, LaFleur couldn't say either way.
"It's way too early for that. There's a lot going on," LaFleur said.
Reed entered 2026 as Green Bay's starting slot receiver. Skyy Moore and Bo Melton will get more opportunities while Reed is out recovering.
Reed, who spent time on injured reserve last season while recovering from surgery to correct collarbone and foot injuries, signed a $50.5 million contract extension with the Packers this offseason. He caught four passes for 24 yards to start 2026.
Other injury updates from LaFleur:
-- LaFleur did not think Zach Bako-Bewele returned too soon from his injury. "Unfortunately, it's one of those things that happen in football. It sucks, I hate it for him."
-- On Aaron Banks, who has a toe injury and hasn't practiced this week: "We'll give it up to game time."
-- Anthony Belton is the starting right tackle with Zach Bako-Bewele out for the season. Belton has a new elbow injury but LaFleur anticipates him playing on Thursday night.
