The Green Bay Packers will finish up the preseason on Friday night against the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field. With roster cutdowns coming on Sunday, the Packers will only have a small window to evaluate the finale and make 53-man roster decisions.
These roster bubble players could take a big step toward securing a spot on Friday night:
RB Pierre Strong Jr.: Josh Jacobs has been formally charged following his May arrest. Strong looks locked in as the team's fourth running back behind Jacobs, MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks, but it's possible he makes more sense as a practice squad option who can be called up when needed to start the season. Strong has real NFL experience and has looked the part this preseason, so a big performance on Friday
night could convince the Packers he's not worth risking on waivers.
WR J. Michael Sturdivant: The rookie is battling Isaiah Neyor and Will Sheppard for what could be the seventh receiver spot on the 53. Watch No. 87 when the Packers are on special teams against the Cardinals. Sturdivant has shown an ability to cover kicks and punt, so any notable play on special teams in the preseason finale could really help his cause. Also, expect Sturdivant, Neyor and Sheppard to get plenty of targets from backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor and Kyle McCord on Friday night.
OL Donovan Jennings: In Jacob Monk and Jager Burton, the Packers have two center-guard types who can play multiple positions on the interior. Is Jennings redundant? It's possible he's battling with Darian Kinnard, who only recently returned from an injury, for a roster spot. Then again, Jennings is still getting reps with the first-team offensive line at guard. Seeing him play quality snaps at guard and center against the Cardinals would likely lock him into a roster spot.
DL Anthony Campbell: He's been one of the top stories of the summer in Green Bay. Can Campbell make one final push? NFL teams are reluctant to risk losing big people who can play, and Campbell has display consistent playmaking potential during practices and games. What if he bats down another pass or creates another impressive pressure on the quarterback on Friday night?
CB Domani Jackson: The rookie corner is still playing catch up after missing the offseason program and the start of training camp with a core muscle injury. The Packers almost always favor draft picks, but Jackson has competition at corner, especially with Kamal Hadden looking like a near lock as the backup slot. He needs the reps, and he should get plenty of snaps at corner against the Cardinals. It might be Jackson versus Jaylin Simpson for a final roster spot.
S Mark Perry: He's made a big play in every preseason game, including a pick last week in Denver. Can Perry make it 3-for-3 on big plays in the finale? He'd make sense as the fifth safety on the 53 if he can finish strong against the Cardinals.
LS Cal Adomitis: Matt Orzech still isn't off the PUP list, so Adomitis is going to get another opportunity to prove he's the man for the long-snapping job. He's been the snapper throughout camp and the preseason while Orzech nurses a calf injury that has lingered.
