The Green Bay Packers signed wide receiver Bo Melton from the practice squad and back to the 53-man roster following a Week 1 loss in Minnesota. Melton, a vested veteran, was released and signed to the practice squad in a financially fueled roster move last Friday.
The Packers elevated Melton from the practice squad to the gameday roster in Week 1, and he returned four kickoffs, including a 59-yarder, while also catching one pass and downing a punt inside the 10-yard line. Melton, who played eight snaps on offense and 20 on special teams, is now back on the 53 to start Week 2.
Because Melton was not on the Week 1 active roster, Melton's base salary is no longer guaranteed for the rest of the season, giving the Packers additional financial freedom
should they need to clear a roster spot later in the season. Vested veterans on the 53-man roster for Week 1 have their salaries fully guaranteed.
The Packers played Week 1 with 52 players on the active roster. Signing Melton re-fills the roster ahead of Week 2.
Green Bay also released long snapper Scott Daly from the practice squad, so two spots are now open. With Matt Orzech healthy, having Daly on the practice squad as insurance was no longer required.
