He won't be heading to Green Bay, but the Packers were among the teams interested in trading for All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson before he was sent to the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, according to reporting from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
The Packers, Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles
were all mentioned by Fowler as teams interested in Nelson, a three-time first-team All-Pro who is in the final year of his contract. The Colts appear headed for a fire sale at the trade deadline after a 2-5 start. Nelson, one of the best guards in football, was a top target.
Acquiring Nelson would have solved a major issue for the Packers offensive line at guard, where the team has attempted numerous fixes to varying success. The cost of getting Nelson for the Seahawks
was a 2027 third-round pick and 2028 fifth-round pick. The Packers likely had financial hurdles to clear in getting Nelson, who has a $16 million base salary in 2026.
Instead of coming to Green Bay, Nelson will go to Seattle to help the defending Super Bowl champs. The Packers are not scheduled to face the Seahawks during the 2026 regular season but could face Seattle if both teams qualify for the postseason in the NFC.
Other potential trade targets coming out of Indianapolis could be running back Jonathan Taylor and defensive lineman DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart.
