The season debut of Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs included an incredible individual effort on a touchdown catch but also a crucial drop of a would-be touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions.
The drop ended up being a game-changing play, and Jacobs said he apologized to teammates and was willing to accept blame for the 20-17 loss.
From Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com:
After the game, Josh Jacobs said he apologized to his team for dropping Jordan Love’s TD pass on third-and-5 with 3:30 left. Big turn in the loss.

"I apologized to the guys," Jacobs said. "At the end of the game, I called
that play, where I dropped that touchdown in the end zone. For my standard, I like myself 10/10. That's a play I gotta make. If you want to blame anybody, blame me."
The drop came on 3rd-and-5. Had he caught the pass, Jacobs would have scored a 17-yard touchdown and put the Packers up 24-17. Instead, the Packers brought out rookie kicker Trey Smack for a 35-yard field goal, which was partially blocked and ended up no good. The Lions ended up taking the ball and driving down the field for the game-winning field goal as time expired.
Jacobs said he did not lose the throw in the lights, but he felt "so open" while waiting for the throw that he mistimed the drop of the ball into his hands.
Jacobs rushed 11 times for 36 yards and caught five passes for 55 yards and a 25-yard touchdown in his first game of the 2026 season.
Jacobs missed the first six games of the regular season while on the Commissioner's Exempt List. He was arrested after an incident with a girlfriend in May and eventually pled no contest to two misdemeanor charges in September.
