The Green Bay Packers will attempt to rebound from the meltdown in Week 1 and avoid the dreaded 0-2 start when they go to MetLife Stadium to play the 1-0 New York Jets in Week 2. Aaron Glenn's team had no problems dispatching the Tennessee Titans in the opener, so the Packers should be ready for a confident and possibly ascending team in New York's home opener on Sunday.
Can the Packers finally snap a six-game losing streak on Sunday? There are no cupcakes in the NFL, especially on the road. Matt LaFleur's team will have to play much better for a full 60 minutes to beat the Jets this week.
Here's a closer look at the Jets entering Week 2:
Last week
The Jets opened the 2026 season with a convincing win over the Tennessee Titans in Nashville. New York scored
an opening drive touchdown and then led the rest of the way, eventually holding a 23-3 lead late in the second half before closing out a 23-10 win. Aaron Glenn's team won the turnover battle 1-0, sacked Cam Ward three times and allowed only 195 total yards. On offense, Geno Smith was a highly efficient 19-of-24 passing, Breece Hall had over 100 yards rushing, the offensive line did not allow a sack (and only one QB hit) and three different receivers had a catch of at least 30 yards. The Titans might be a bad football team, but the Jets looked the part to open the season.
Newcomers
This is a remade Jets roster entering 2026. Geno Smith returned to New York this offseason, and the Jets are hoping the veteran can finally stabilize the position. New York also added nose tackle D'Vondre Sweat via trade. Other veteran additions include left guard Dylan Parham, defensive lineman David Onyemata, linebacker Demario Davis, edge rusher Joseph Ossai, edge rusher (former Packer) Kingsley Enagbare, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, safety Dane Belton and kicker Blake Grupe. The rookie class -- featuring edge rusher David Bailey, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, receiver Omar Cooper Jr., cornerback D'Angelo Ponds, defensive tackle Darrell Jackson and quarterback Cabe Klubnik -- looks impressive. Given the talent influx, this could be a team on the rise.
Quarterback play
Geno Smith had a nightmare season with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025, but he was excellent in Week 1 for the Jets. The 35-year-old completed 19 of 24 passes for 215 yards, averaging 9.0 yards per attempt while not taking a sack or committing a turnover. He hit eight different targets. Smith ranked first among quarterbacks in PFF passing grade in Week 1. Two of his completions were considered "big time throws," and his adjusted completion percentage, accounting for drops and throwaways, was 87.5 percent. He was under pressure on just six of his 26 dropbacks, per PFF. Omar Cooper Jr., Adonai Mitchell and Garrett Wilson all had plays of at least 30 yards in the passing game. Smith has a history of putting the ball in danger, but he did not have a play close to a turnover in the opener.
Injury situation
Edge rusher Joseph Ossai, kickoff returner Kene Nwangwu and rookie cornerback D'Angelo Ponds did not play in Week 1 because of injuries. Among those hurt in the season opener were playmaking rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and former Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Fitzpatrick is expected to miss multiple weeks with a groin injury. Running back Breece Hall was able to recover from a groin injury and play a full game in Week 1.
Players to know
- RB Breece Hall: After his first 1,000-yard rushing season in 2025, Hall opened the 2026 season with 102 yards against the Titans on Sunday. He is an explosive runner who can create big plays and be a weapon out of the backfield. As a rookie in 2022, Hall rushed for 116 yards and a score in a win over the Packers at Lambeau Field.
- WR Garrett Wilson: The 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year started his career with three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons, but he's attempt to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 season. Week 1 was a good start, as Wilson caught six passes on seven targets from new quarterback Geno Smith. The former first-round pick is excellent at getting open.
- DE Kingsley Enagbare: The former Packer had a sack and five total pressures in his Jets debut. He played 33 snaps on the edge for a Jets pass rush that features top rookie David Bailey and former first-round pick Will McDonald IV, who also had sacks in Week 1. McDonald ranked third among edge rushers in ESPN's pass-rush win rate in the opening week.
- C Josh Myers: The former Packers center has become a mainstay for the Jets offensive line. He allowed two pressures and committed a penalty in the opener. But the Jets offensive line was terrific overall, ranking in the top 10 in both pass-blocking and run-blocking at PFF.
- LB Demario Davis: The former long-time Saint is still a highly capable every down linebacker. In the opener, Davis produced seven tackles without a miss, made a few impact plays against the run and broke up a pass in coverage. He remains one of the most underrated and under-appreciated players in football.
