The Green Bay Packers hosted a tryout for seven different players on the Tuesday of Week 1, including three running backs and three former draft picks. Brian Gutekunst's roster still has an open spot on the practice squad, so a signing to fill the practice squad could be coming as soon as Wednesday.
Per the transaction wire, the Packers had a tryout for the following players:
- RB Damon Bankston
- TE Cody Hardy
- DB Sanoussi Kane
- RB Phil Mafah
- QB Jack Plummer
- DB Ambry Thomas
- RB Ian Wheeler
Bankston, a rookie out of New Mexico State, visited Green Bay before the 2026 draft. He went undrafted before signing with the New York Giants, who released him at final cuts.
Mafah, a seventh-round pick of the Cowboys in the 2025 draft, missed all but one game during his entire rookie season with a shoulder injury. Wheeler went undrafted out of Howard in 2024 and has spent
time with three different NFL teams, and he won a UFL title as a member of the Louisville Kings in 2026.

Hardy, who is 6-5 and 271 pounds, was released by the New Orleans Saints at final cuts. He went undrafted out of NC State in 2026.
Kane, a safety, was a seventh-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2024. He has played in 24 career games over two seasons, appearing for almost 500 career special teams snaps. Thomas, a cornerback, was a third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2021. He has played in 46 career games.
