There was once a time when quarterback Will Levis was thought to be the future of the Tennessee Titans. Now, as the third-string quarterback behind Cam Ward and Mitch Trubisky, Levis faces the possibility of getting cut. In fact, according to an article from CBS, Levis a top candidate among veterans to get cut before the Titans finalize their 53-man roster. Here is what they had to say:
“There was a brief period when Will Levis was supposed to be the Titans' franchise quarterback. Three years after Tennessee made him the first player off the board on Day 2 of the 2023 draft, he could be out the door.
It comes down to whether the Titans will carry two quarterbacks or three. Cam Ward is the face of the franchise, and Trubisky is the clear choice
to be his backup given his familiarity with Brian Daboll's scheme. If this first-year staff only wants two quarterbacks, the Levis experience is over.”
In head coach Robert Saleh’s history when he served as the head coach of the New York Jets, he tended to keep three quarterbacks on the roster if he had confidence in all of them. So, Levis should have a role on the roster if he has done enough to convince the coaches to keep him around. However, throughout training camp and their first two preseason games, Levis has failed to impress, which could put his roster spot in jeopardy.
Perhaps his final chance to prove to the coaching staff why he should stay on the roster was in Tennessee’s final preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday. He completed 14 of 22 passes for 143 yards. It was the final game of the NFL preseason before every team finalizes its initial 53-man roster on Sunday.
