The fallout from the Tennessee Titans' surprise release of veteran defensive tackle Jordan Elliott on Tuesday continues to build, as details have emerged that the undisclosed incident went far beyond a personal matter and could have had much more severe consequences. And now the NFL has weighed in.
A league spokesperson verified the initial reporting that Elliott went to his car to get a gun last week after an altercation at practice, and Pro Football Talk reports that the league is investigating.
The Titans reported the incident, prompting the investigation.
“Yes. The club promptly notified the league of the matter, which is under review.”
A source outside of the Titans organization told Pro Football Talk that this is an “egregious conduct violation
to have a gun at an NFL facility,” and that the rule is (or at least is required to be) posted in every team facility, in multiple locations.
“You aren’t allowed to have one in your car if your car is parked inside an NFL facility,” the source said. “So I think it’s fairly certain that Elliott will be suspended if and when he signs with a team.”
This backs up what Paul Kuharsky said earlier in the day when he pointed out the potential for suspension.

Per NFL policy, players are prohibited from having guns in their vehicles in a practice facility parking lot.
Violations can lead to NFL discipline.
Fortunately for the Titans and everyone involved, the situation didn’t spiral out of control, and cooler heads prevailed. This story is still developing, and you can stay up to date with Titans Wire as news breaks.
