The Tennessee Titans are heading into Week 3 with a major development involving their opponent. New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart was already expected to miss their matchup after suffering a knee injury against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.
The second-year quarterback was initially believed to have avoided the worst-case scenario, but additional testing revealed a much more significant injury. Now, Dart will undergo season-ending knee surgery, meaning veteran Jameis Winston is set to take over as the Giants' starting quarterback beginning this Sunday when they host the Titans.
Following Dart's injury, Winston struggled after entering the game against the Rams, completing 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and an interception.
Winston is more of a pocket quarterback than the dual threat that Dart presented, so the Titans' game plan changes significantly.
Dart opened the season with a strong performance in New York's Week 1 win over Dallas and was set for his first battle against fellow 2025 first-round quarterback Cam Ward before the injury. That matchup will have to wait until at least 2028, granted both remain starters for their respective teams by then.
The Titans enter Sunday's matchup at MetLife Stadium at 0-2 after a blowout loss to the Jets and a narrow loss to the Eagles, while the Giants are 1-1. The quarterback change gives Tennessee a tweak to make in their preparation as it searches for its first win of the season.
