The Tennessee Titans could not get out of their own way, and the Houston Texans dominated Cam Ward and the Titans' offense all afternoon. In a day to forget, Tennessee fell 26-3 to the Texans in Week 5.
The defense held up as well as possible in the first half, limiting the Texans to four field goals, but the Titans' offense struggled in the second half, and the Texans seized momentum and never looked back.
The Titans' defense played hard but couldn't withstand the constant pressure the Texans' offense applied all afternoon, and the Titans dropped an early AFC South matchup.
Final Score: Texans 26, Titans 3
Keys to the Game
- Turnovers: Once again in 2026, the Titans came out on the short end of the turnover battle, and their two first-half turnovers gave the Texans short fields and points. The Titans' defense held them to field goals, but the offense struggled, and it was too much.
- Too much pressure: The Titans offensive line struggled with the Texans' front, especially Dan Moore, who couldn't handle Danielle Hunter, a menace in the Titans' backfield all afternoon.
- Cam Ward: Ward struggled with accuracy again and couldn't get the offense going until it was garbage time. His first-half interception was coupled with an inability to consistently make plays when called upon. Doomed the Titans' offense.
- Penalties: Tennessee didn't commit a penalty in the first half, but once they broke the seal in the second half, it was bad. On offense, multiple penalties brought back explosive plays that could have sparked the offense, and on defense, they were on critical plays and kept drives alive.
It was over when...
The Texans took the opening kickoff of the second half and ground out a 17-play touchdown drive to take a 19-3 lead late in the third quarter. The Titans controlled the ball
all second half, and Tennessee never had a chance to claw their way back.
Players of the Game
- S Tony Adams: Adams stepped in for Amani Hooker, who remains in concussion protocol, and made his presence felt throughout the game, playing physical against both the run and pass. He led the Titans with tackles and was active all afternoon.
- S Terrell Burgess: Burgess got his first extended playing time with the Titans, and he proved to be up to the task stepping in for injured Kevin Winston Jr. and adding a physical presence in the secondary.
- WR Wan'Dale Robinson: Robinson was the only offensive weapon who could get anything going on Sunday, finishing with six receptions for 53 yards.
Injuries
The Titans lost their starting safety on the opening kickoff with a quad injury, and he didn't return, leaving Tennessee with backups Tony Adams and Terrell Burgess as the safety tandem throughout. The Titans also lost Cor'Dale Flott to a chest injury in the fourth quarter, and he did not return.
What's next?
Titans head coach Robert Saleh will meet with reporters on Monday afternoon to wrap up the week and set the stage for Week 6. Select players may be made available after Saleh's press conference.
Tennessee will return to practice on Wednesday ahead of a Week 6 game against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon CDT.
