Last week, Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi quietly threw shade at second-year quarterback Cam Ward by not mentioning him as a candidate to lead the franchise after trading away team leader Jeffery Simmons.
But instead of running from it or buckling under pressure from a chorus of negativity thrust upon him by the talking heads outside the organization, Ward stood tall and had a career day against the Cincinnati Bengals, looking like the team leader many expected when he was selected first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
After the game, Ward spoke to the media and talked about his outlook moving forward.

“Just continue to be myself. The team really got us together — offense, defense, and special teams. I think the biggest thing that a lot of people don’t know about me is that I’m willing to do anything to win games. So we have a tough schedule coming up, with a bye week, then try to do some for division opponents, and, you know, get what we want from there.”
While Ward still has some work to do, his performance against the Bengals was a positive step forward, and he corrected some of the issues that have plagued him throughout the season. Ward finally looked like a franchise quarterback and played a big part in forcing the game into overtime.
This performance came at a great time, and now, heading into the bye week, Ward will have a chance to build on it and prove he can lead the organization moving forward.
