One of the biggest storylines this week for the Tennessee Titans ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets is the status of linebacker Cedric Gray. Gray suffered a concussion and other minor injuries over Labor Day weekend and entered the NFL’s concussion protocol on Monday, leaving his availability for the opener in question.
On Wednesday, head coach Robert Saleh addressed Gray's injury and, surprisingly, offered an optimistic outlook on his availability when asked.

“He’s obviously apologetic; obviously frustrated with himself,” Saleh said. “But thankfully, I’m taking it as a glass
half full. He’s good, he’shealthy, and he’s got a chance.”
While he didn’t push the idea that Gray would be available this week, the fact that he still has a chance to exit the concussion protocol for Sunday is an extremely positive outlook for Gray heading into the season.
Tennessee needs a healthy Gray to lead their linebacking corps, especially if Cody Barton continues to show signs of slowing down. Barton struggled during the preseason and is being pushed by rookie Anthony Hill Jr., and Gray’s absence could complicate the timeline for Hill to take on a bigger role in the defense.
It will be interesting to see how Gray is listed on the Titans’ first official injury report later on Wednesday.
