The Tennessee Titans surprised many on Tuesday by releasing veteran defensive tackle Jordan Elliott after an undisclosed incident at the team facility last week. Some in the fanbase ran wild with comments and theories on why it happened, everything from brawls to lies to team dysfunction. Unfortunately, all of those were wrong.
In fact, the real reason was far more serious, and Robert Saleh, Mike Borgonzi, and the organization were more than justified in acting swiftly, although the entire situation and root cause remain a mystery.
Now that the details have surfaced and the truth that Elliott was released after allegedly brandishing a firearm in response to an altercation during practice, many are either remaining silent or walking back their
initial comments. This is an ugly situation all of the way around, and Elliott now potentially faces a league penalty on top of his release,
Here’s how fans are reacting on social media to the news about Elliott and the fallout from the truth being revealed.

Multiple published reports indicate that the Titans released DT Jordan Elliott five days after an incident in which he went to his car to get his gun following an altercation with a teammate. https://t.co/qq4PlOAtGq

Our @Titans had no choice but to release Jordan Elliott after he did what he did.

To have done nothing would be negligent.
PS, shame on those who used his release to criticise the Titans organisation in the last few days.#Titans #TitanUp #Oilers https://t.co/PaZtqkAUHP
I’m just happy it didn’t escalate further. Big props to JFM stopping a situation that could’ve been alot more serious. This behavior from Elliott is inexcusable and I do hope whatever he’s got going on in his personal life can get resolved sooner than later. #Titans https://t.co/z8XIWvemMu

Before the offseason I wanted the Jets to try to bring back John Franklin-Myers. Now I understand that the Titans needed him more https://t.co/hTb1pUSxi8

Cannot ever do this period. Rightfully so the Titans cut him. Huge great job to JFM for being a calming voice and getting that handled. You can’t do this. No matter what the situation is. https://t.co/1VtInPbLFh

#Titans HC Saleh preaches “fast and violent,” but this isn’t what he meant. 😳

My take on Jordan Elliott’s release and the teammate who helped de-escalate it. 👇https://t.co/ebX56x5smd#TitanUp pic.twitter.com/oo7jNBtqEQ
