The new campaign for the Tennessee Titans hasn't gotten off to the way the organization would've hoped under head coach Robert Saleh.
Taking over in his first year after spending the 2025 season as the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, the hope was that Saleh would bring a different mindset to the locker room in Nashville. Following a disastrous debut against his former team in the New York Jets, though, tensions are already high.
With quarterback Cam Ward going into his second season, much of the outlook rests on his development. He's already gone through plenty of change in terms of coaching staffs, which can certainly be a detriment for a young player.
That's why Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Reportbelieves Saleh's seat is safe at least
through the 2027 season, placing him under the "First-Year Cool" category among hot seat NFL coaches.
"I think they'd really like to avoid handing Cam Ward three different coaching staffs in his first three seasons, which likely means sticking with Saleh through 2027, regardless of the results," Gagnon wrote.
That type of optimism is all fine and well early in the season. The front office may not feel the same way midway through the season if the Titans continue to put together lackluster results as they did in the 23-10 loss against the New York Jets in Week 1.
Saleh's history as head coach of the Jets showed he may struggle with rebuilding an organization after going 20-36 in East Rutherford across three-and-a-half seasons.
Constant change is never ideal for a young quarterback so it will be interesting to see if Titans ownership will let Saleh play out his vision.
