Anytime a team starts out the season 0-5, there is pressure on the head coach to turn things around. The Tennessee Titans are no exception as head coach Robert Saleh is currently ranked No. 8 on the head coach hot seat rankings according to CBS. Here is what they had to say about Saleh:
“Saleh doesn't sound like a coach who is worried about his job. When recently asked about making changes amid the Titans' 0-5 start, Saleh said that Tennessee is ‘in game five of year one.’
Either Saleh knows something we don't, or he is underestimating the situation in Nashville. While little was expected of them this season, the Titans are failing to even reach that extremely low bar, especially on offense. Tennessee's defense (Saleh's side of the ball) is 10th
in the NFL in points allowed, but its offense is last in the NFL in scoring and 31st in passing.
Saleh might survive the season, but he will likely need changes to his offensive coaching staff if things don't improve during the season's final 12 games.”
Firing Saleh after this season would be a mistake unless there is serious dysfunction in the locker room. This is only his first season as Tennessee’s head coach, and the Titans have finished last in their division since 2023. When the Titans brought Saleh in, they knew this would not be a quick turnaround, especially on offense.
The offense needs to improve if this team is going to be remotely competitive this season. Questions have already arisen about offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and his fit with Cam Ward.
It will also be a critical time for the organization to decide whether Ward is truly the quarterback they want to stick with, especially with several talented quarterbacks expected to be drafted in the first round of the upcoming draft. Even though Saleh is a defensive-minded coach, how the team handles its quarterback situation could significantly affect Saleh’s longevity in Nashville.
