The Tennessee Titans had a serious quarterback battle during training camp and preseason. Cam Ward is the undeniable starter, but behind him, a battle raged for who would back him up. The Titans brought in Mitch Trubisky and Hendon Hooker to compete with incumbent backup Will Levis. Today, as roster cuts are pouring in ahead of the 5:00 p.m. CST deadline to trim rosters down to 53-men, the Titans announced they are waiving Levis.

Levis was drafted by the Titans in 2023 and replaced Ryan Tannehill in Mike Vrabel’s final season as head coach. Through the 2023 and 2024 seasons,
Levis appeared in 21 games and completed 339 passes for 3,899 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also threw 16 interceptions and took 69 sacks, averaging a quarterback rating of 82.7.
He sat out the 2025 season after undergoing shoulder surgery during the offseason and had hopes of regaining some playing time in 2026. The Titans, though, have been open to trading Levis for a while, and since that hasn’t happened, the Titans have decided to part ways with their former second-round draft pick.
With Levis on Waivers, the Titans are eating $3 million in dead cap space ($2 million in cash) if he goes unclaimed. They paid him a $906,000 bonus at the start of training camp, and his $1.1 million salary is guaranteed.
Without Levis, Trubisky and Hooker will be on the roster to back up Cam Ward in 2026.
