The Tennessee Titans are set to start the season on Sunday against the New York Jets, and while most of the talk has been centered on Robert Saleh coaching against his former team, another key piece of the Titans’ offseason additions will also get a shot at his former team.
One of the first moves following Mike Borgonzi hiring Saleh, the Titans traded defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat to the Jets in a rare player-for-player trade for edge Jermaine Johnson. A perfect move for a Titans franchise that desperately needed to bolster its edge unit.
Now, Johnson will have a chance to start the season against his former team, and it’s clear he really couldn't care less.

"But more than anything, I am just ready to start this season," Johnson said, "especially being able to go out there with this amazing group of guys and a coaching staff I am familiar with. I am excited to start the season off."
The acquisition of Johnson was a significant move early in the offseason that set the stage for what would occur. Familiar with the system, he is a perfect fit, and to land him in a swap for a player who didn’t fit the scheme was a no-brainer.
Johnson has had his best years under Saleh, and he clearly gives Tennessee an edge on the edge compared to where they were in 2025. Now, all he has to do is produce, and he will get a chance on Sunday against his former team.
