The Tennessee Titans were back to work preparing for their Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets and made a late-week roster move ahead of the weekend. The Titans signed former Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones to the active 53-man roster and waived recently claimed cornerback Melvin Smith Jr. in a corresponding move.
Jones is an experienced cornerback who entered the league as a seventh-round pick of the Colts in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M and has spent his entire career in Indianapolis. The 6-foot-2, 203-pound corner has been a part-time starter with the Colts, seeing action in 44 games (29 starts), and has recorded 162 tackles, two interceptions, and 21 passes defensed.

The Colts waived Jones on Tuesday, and he went unclaimed before signing on with the Titans.A physical defensive back, Jones also brings experience on special teams and will likely enter the mix as one of the Titans’ gunners as he learns the nuances of the defense.
Jones will have to come up to speed quickly if he is to be active this week when the Titans face the Jets in the season opener on Sunday at Nissan Stadium.
