The Tennessee Titans will look to secure their first victory of the 2026 NFL season when they travel to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6. Tennessee enters Sunday's AFC South matchup at 0-5 following a lackluster 26-3 home loss to the Houston Texans. Indianapolis is 2-3 after suffering a 34-22 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Titans have also lost six straight to the Colts, making this another tough matchup for a team desperately searching for answers.
Here are three key matchups that could determine Sunday's outcome.
1. Titans defensive front vs. Colts RB Jonathan Taylor
Containing Jonathan Taylor will be one of Tennessee's biggest priorities. The Colts running back has rushed for 398 yards and six touchdowns through five games and has dominated this matchup in his last three games against
the Titans.
Tennessee's defensive front, led by Jeffery Simmons, must prevent Taylor from finding running lanes and creating explosive plays. If the Titans struggle to contain Taylor, Indianapolis could control the clock and keep Tennessee's already struggling offense on the sidelines.
2. Titans wide receivers vs. Colts secondary
Tennessee's wide receivers will need to create opportunities for quarterback Cam Ward against a talented, yet uninspiring secondary of the Colts. Tennessee's passing offense has struggled to consistently move the ball, making it critical for the receivers to win their individual matchups and create separation.
The Colts' pass defense ranks 28th in the NFL, giving up 254 yards per game. If there was a game for the Titans' passing game to have a true breakout performance, this is the week for it to happen.
3. Titans run game vs. Colts defensive front
While the Titans' second-year quarterback Cam Ward has taken the brunt of criticism for the Titans' offensive issues, the lack of a consistent running game hasn't helped the young quarterback. While the Titans' passing offense ranks 31st in yards per game, their rushing attack ranks 27th, averaging only 82.6 yards per game on the ground.
Similar to their passing defense, the Colts' rushing defense ranks 28th, giving up 130.2 yards per game. If there was a game for the Titans'running game to have a true breakout performance, this is the week for it to happen.
