The Tennessee Titans stumbled out of the gate in their 23-10 loss to the New York Jets in Week 1 action, and one thing became clear: Cam Ward must play better.
As in the preseason, Ward struggled with accuracy and couldn't string plays together, resulting in a dismal performance. On the day, he went 19-of-32 for 140 yards and one touchdown, but the plays left on the field could have made a tremendous difference in the outcome.
After the game, Ward spoke to the media about some of those plays and said the unit is still a work in progress.

“Those are some big plays that we could have had, but we still got a lot of things to clean up for sure. I’m very disappointed. We’re
better than what we showed offensively. We trained a lot this offseason. We had some hard days. It didn’t pay off for us today, but it’s going to pay off for us eventually, whether it’s next week or the week after, but we’re going to get it rolling, and it’s exciting.”
Now entering his second season as a starter, Ward must take a step forward in his play, and Sunday did nothing to make anyone believe it will happen any time soon. Ward looked scared and didn't trust his surroundings, often bailing out instead of standing tall in the pocket. If Tennessee is going to turn things around, Ward must be the catalyst, and after one week, he looks more like a problem than the solution.
Ward and the Titans will have a chance to get back on track on Sunday, when the Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) come rolling into Nissan Stadium.
