The Tennessee Titans used their premier draft capital to give second-year Cam Ward some help in the passing game, adding the highly-touted Carnell Tate to the roster.
The Ohio State product was the top wide receiver in the class for the majority of analysts this offseason. While that sentiment still mostly rings true, Tate didn't provide the most encouraging preseason. The No. 4 overall pick didn't record a single reception on six targets across three preseason games.
Despite that, Tate was named to the CBS Sports' preseason All-Rookie NFL team by Josh Edwards. Here's what he had to say about Tate's selection:
Tate was the third receiver picked for this exercise. There was consideration for Baltimore's Ja'Kobi Lane, Miami's Caleb Douglas and a few
others, but cowardice won out. Tennessee spent a handsome sum of money on wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson in free agency and still has Calvin Ridley, but one would think the No. 4 overall selection will be involved in the game plan. Tate has good size and is a professional route runner.
The two other receivers recognized on the team were Cleveland Browns wideouts KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston.
Even with some veterans in the room, Tate is widely expected to be the leader in targets throughout Brian Daboll's offense. The entire unit will need to see improvement from Ward in the passing game. Adding a talent like Tate's can help alleviate some of the concerns, but there are also some issues that he simply cannot fix.
The 2026 campaign appears to be shaping up as another rebuilding year for the Titans, but there's still hope that Tate can deliver a promising rookie season.
