After the Tennessee Titans surprisingly traded away star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, many fans are wondering why general manager Mike Borgonzi would part with the face of the franchise.
On Thursday afternoon, Daniel Jeremiah of the Move the Sticks Podcast broke down the move and offered several reasons the front office made it, with the most important being its current inability to compete.

“This is not a go-for-it time. It’s not a stand-pat time. This is a time to point toward the future, collect some assets. By the time your team is ready to win at a high level, Jeffrey Simmons will be years down the road," he said. "You might not be getting
the best version of Jeffrey Simmons. So I thought it was smart to understand we’re not close. We need to get a bunch of resources. This is a time to take this asset in a very aggressive market, as all these NFC teams are going for it and cash that check.”
On top of that, Tennessee has to figure out what they have in Cam Ward. While this move isn’t a complete indictment of Ward’s uneven performance, it does insulate them if they deem it necessary to move on from Ward after this season. Unfortunately, the 2027 quarterback class isn't stellar, making a veteran who can at least compete with Ward a potential option.
With Tennessee in a complete rebuild, it’s time for the young players in Nashville to step up, and that starts with Cam Ward and the offense.
