The Tennessee Titans finished practice ahead of their Week 5 matchup with the Houston Texans, but took time out of their schedule to work on four defensive backs. The Titans worked out Dean Clark, Jack Henderson, Dan Jackson, and John Saunders on Friday but didn't add any of them to the practice squad or active roster.
Jackson has the highest pedigree of the four defensive backs Tennessee worked out, entering the league as a seventh-round pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2025 NFL Draft. After spending his rookie season on injured reserve, the 6-foot-1,195-pound safety was waived at the end of training camp in 2026.
Clark entered the league as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft and signed with the New York Jets. The 6-foot-1,
205-pound safety didn’t make the initial roster out of camp, but was eventually elevated from the practice squad and spent the majority of 2026 on the Jets’ 53-man roster. He joined the Jets in training camp in 2026 but was waived during final cuts.
Henderson also entered the league as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2025 with the Carolina Panthers, and spent the entire preseason with them. After being cut, he bounced around practice squads with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Miami Dolphins before joining the Steelers on a futures contract in January. Pittsburgh released him in August.
Saunders was also an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft, and eventually signed with the Miami Dolphins. After being released at the end of training camp, he signed to their practice squad before the New England Patriots plucked him. After spending a minimum time on the Patriots' 53-man roster, he was waived and joined their practice squad. He did go to camp with New England in 2026, was cut, and joined the Jets’ practice squad, but was waived on October 1.
This is an interesting development after the Titans added Derrick Canteen to the practice squad earlier in the week, but it could also signal that Amani Hooker’s concussion may keep him out longer than this week’s matchup. Hooker was already ruled out for Sunday, and the Titans plan to elevate safety Isaiah Oliver to add depth in the secondary.
