The Tennessee Titans will travel to New Jersey to take on the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in what should be an interesting Week 3 matchup.
The Titans head into the contest relatively healthy, though two key players are questionable: Tyjae Spears and Cor'Dale Flott. While both players were limited Friday at the week’s final practice, there was optimism they could go.
However, some of the moves on Saturday by the Titans point to both sitting out.
Saturday’s moves
The Titans made a couple of roster moves on Saturday that could offer insight into whether Flott or Spears will suit up against the Giants in what is shaping up to be a weather nightmare. Tennessee signed cornerback/safety Erick Hallett to the active 53-man roster and used a standard elevation on running
back Michael Carter for Sunday’s matchup.
Will Spears play against Giants?
With Tennessee elevating Carter and the expected inclement weather, it would be surprising to see Spears suit up against the Giants, given his ankle injury. However, Carter's elevation could be insurance for both Spears and Tony Pollard, who also missed some practice time with an ankle through the week.
Who would replace Spears in the lineup?
If Spears can’t go, look to rookie Nick Singleton for a few added carries, with Carter sprinkled in. Singleton made his NFL debut against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2 and looked good, though he left some yards on the field. Carter is a veteran and can play multiple roles if called upon.
Will Flott play against Giants?
Although he was limited with his quad injury, Flott practiced all week in some capacity and said he was trending toward playing against his former team. Unlike the elevation of Carter, the signing of Hallett to the 53-man roster was inevitable, having already been elevated twice and playing a role on special teams. At this point, Flott appears to be a game-time decision, and definitely has a chance to go against the Giants.
Who would replace Flott in the lineup?
If Flott sits out again in Week 3, Micah Robinson would get the start and play a bigger role at cornerback for the Titans' defense.
