The Tennessee Titans hosted the Philadelphia Eagles at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, in Week 2 action on Sunday, and it was one of the most fun games we've seen the Titans play in a very long time.
The Titans looked like a completely different team against the Eagles this week, and despite losing 24-20, they have nothing to hang their heads about.
When Titans Wire sat down to look at our options for Player of the Game, we discovered it was not an easy decision. Jeffery Simmons was incredibly disruptive on the defensive side of the ball, Anthony Hill led the team in tackles, and there were additional offensive players under consideration.
We can only pick one, though, and given the turnaround from last week, we landed on Cam Ward.
The Titans'
ability to capitalize on Amani Hooker's interception with a touchdown gave the offense the confidence it needed for the rest of the game. The Titans drew first blood, and it was back-and-forth for the rest of the game, but Ward lit a fire under the offense. He was 12-for-18 for 168 yards through the air, completing 66.7 percent of his passes. He added four carries for seven yards and two rushing touchdowns as well.
The Eagles were gifted this win by the officials, with two missed calls on their winning touchdown drive. The Titans got the ball back with nine seconds to play. They had time for two plays; the first was a completion from Ward to Carnell Tate that ended at the 50-yard line, and the final throw was incomplete as the pocket collapsed around Ward on the final play of the game.
Ward looked like a much better quarterback in this loss, and while his final two passes were disappointing, he is still one of the biggest reasons the Titans stayed relevant in this game.
