To say Cam Ward is under pressure would be a massive understatement as the Tennessee Titans quarterback enters his second season.
The former No. 1 overall pick shoulders immense expectations simply due to where he was selected in the 2025 NFL draft. But now coming off a tumultuous rookie campaign, the stakes are even higher for the Miami product.
Going into Year 2, there's plenty of hope that Ward will take steps toward being the franchise quarterback the Titans envision him to be. Whether that takes place remains to be seen.
Regardless, Ward's new head coach made a pretty emphatic statement about the young quarterback's future.
"This kid's not going to fail," Saleh said Sunday, via ESPN's Turron Davenport. "Obviously, I put my job on that one,
but he's not going to fail. He's special."
Given the state of the franchise and the rate at which head coaches are replaced across the NFL each season, there's a lot riding on those words from Saleh. Even so, it all comes down to Ward's development.
The 24-year-old is now in command of an offense brought over by former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, who became the offensive coordinator following his termination in East Rutherford midway through the 2025 campaign.
Ward is coming off a rookie campaign that didn't generate much positive buzz. He completed 59.8% of his passes for 3,169 yards, 15 touchdowns, seven interceptions and an 80.2 passer rating. The Titans went 3-14 while securing the No. 4 overall pick, which they used to help boost Ward's production by taking Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate.
Though some additions were made to the defensive side of the ball, the Titans are still a long way from being considered a contender.
Ward can change that narrative with a strong sophomore campaign, and the job of his head coach may be riding on it.
