The Tennessee Titans made a small roster move on Thursday, swapping out cornerback Melvin Smith Jr. for former Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones. At first, the move looked like a simple depth swap, but a closer look may reveal something deeper.
Jones was drafted by the Colts during defensive coordinator Gus Bradley’s stint as defensive coordinator and played some of his best football under his guidance. Because of that connection, he already knows the system, which should help him carve out a role early in his tenure.
Jones even pointed this out when he spoke with Jim Wyatt after signing.

"Just (try) to get up to speed pretty quick," Jones said. "I've been in this defense before,
so I'm ready to get to work."
Cornerback depth and play were major topics of discussion throughout preseason and training camp, and general manager Mike Borgonzi has been active since the rosters were reduced to 53 players, churning the depth to build quality depth; Jones could be an intriguing addition. A big, physical cornerback with special teams experience could just be what he has been searching for.
