Thursday was not the best day in Nashville after the shocking news broke about the blockbuster trade of Jeffery Simmons to the Chicago Bears. Many outlets began debating what the deal means for the organization and how they view quarterback Cam Ward.
General manager Mike Borgonzi didn’t do anything to quiet the noise around Ward when he failed to name the young signal-caller the new face of the franchise at a Thursday press conference. Instead naming veterans such as Amani Hooker, Jermaine Johnson, and John Franklin-Myers, while expressing belief that young players will step up into the role.
Polarizing Titans commentator Jared Stillman highlighted the moment on X, and his take was actually valid. If it isn’t Ward, the former first-overall draft
pick who Borgonzi once called the unquestioned franchise quarterback, then the organization must be out on Ward.
Mike Borgonzi being asked who the "face of the franchise" is and declining to name Cam Ward--a year after HE drafted Cam Ward No 1 overall and un-retired a HoFer's number FOR Cam Ward should tell you all you need to know about the @Titans belief in Cam Ward. pic.twitter.com/xPvrFKc2Ni

Ward has failed to show the growth many expected heading into the season. And while the offensive issues aren’t all his fault, as the quarterback, it’s his job to correct them and elevate those around him. So far in his career, Ward hasn't done that, and his uneven play has many wondering whether he will be the starter in 2027.
His omission from this list cannot be a vote of confidence, especially now that the Titans have flexibility and the draft capital to make multiple changes heading into the future.
