A former third-round pick in the 1983 NBA Draft out of UCLA, Michael Holton played professional basketball in Puerto Rico before earning an NBA contract with the Phoenix Suns for his age-23 season. Holton would split time between three franchises: the Suns, Chicago Bulls and the Portland Trail Blazers before landing with the Charlotte Hornets during the 1988 expansion draft.
In his first season (1988-89) with Charlotte, Holton enjoyed a career year, making 60 starts and averaging 8.3 points, 6.3 assists, 1.6 rebounds and one steal in 25.3 minutes per game, splitting time with franchise legend Muggsy Bogues at point guard. Unfortunately for Holton, his NBA career would end after 16 games during the 1989-90 season. After his playing days, Holton would coach
at the University of Portland and later become a broadcaster.
