After playing a season with the Kansas Jayhawks, the Charlotte Hornets took a chance on Darrin Hancock with the No. 38 overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft. Hancock spent his first two NBA seasons with the Hornets, making 109 appearances and 14 starts. During those games, Hancock averaged 3.9 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.4 steals in 11.6 minutes per game. After his two-year contract was up, the Hornets opted against re-signing him.
During the 1996-97 season (his final NBA campaign), Hancock played for three different NBA teams, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Atlanta Hawks and the San Antonio Spurs, combining to play 24 games between the three franchises. Following his departure from the NBA, Hancock would make a steady career as a professional
basketball player in various leagues throughout the United States.
