After beginning his professional basketball career in his home country of Argentina and playing overseas in Spain, Walter Herrmann signed with the Charlotte Bobcats ahead of the 2006-07 season. Herrmann proved to be an underrated pickup right away, as the Argentine stretch-four averaged 9.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 0.4 steals while shooting 52.7% from the field and 46.1% from 3-point range. These numbers helped Herrmann make the NBA All-Rookie Second Team and saw him finish 10th place in Rookie of the Year Award voting.
After 17 games during his sophomore season, the Bobcats would trade Herrmann and center Primoz Brezec in exchange for veteran center Nazr Mohammed. Herrmann, a 2004 Olympic Gold medalist with Argentina, would go on to
play 87 games with the Pistons before leaving the NBA to return to Spain.
